The ARES III crew was the third team sent by NASA on a manned mission to Mars. Originally meant to spend 31 sols on the planet, they aborted their mission on Sol 18 due to a dust storm in which crew member MARK WATNEY was believed to have died. However, he survived and spent another 543 sols alone on the planet until he was rescued by his crewmates.
